Tukaone Weavers Camp
An economy camp where the money goes a long way — the price is restrained, but it is pitched right in the heart of the Serengeti near Seronera. You are staying inside the game area rather than commuting to it every day.
Why we chose it
Tukaone runs three camps in the central Serengeti, all of them decent, and Weavers Camp is the one we recommend. Its great strength is value: the price is squarely economy tier, but the tent space, en-suite bathroom, hot shower and general service are better than a good many camps at the same money — you never get the feeling of putting up with something to save a few dollars.
The location matters more still. Weavers sits in the central Serengeti near Seronera, in what is already excellent game-viewing country, so exploring the centre from here is easy and you don't lose hours each day driving to and from your camp.
What to know
It is, in the end, an economy tented camp. The rooms are practical and comfortable, but the finishes and furniture are plain — don't expect boutique polish. Hot water is solar-heated, and the hardware generally is standard safari-camp level.
Canvas also does little for sound insulation, so at night you hear the wind and the animals quite directly. That is a bonus if you love the safari atmosphere, but light sleepers may need a night to adjust.
