Why we chose it
Tanzania Bush Tented Camp Ndutu strikes a balance between price, position and experience that we rate highly. It sits right in the Ndutu area, which makes game drives in peak season easy — and with a mobile camp, position is much of the point: you don't spend hours each day driving to find animals. From December to March, when the wildebeest calve around Ndutu and the lions and cheetah gather behind them, the camp is pitched right in that area, which effectively places you where the density is.
For a mobile camp at this price, the tents, food and service are all done well. The rooms are not luxurious, but there is enough space and enough basic comfort, and the safari atmosphere is completely genuine. The operator positions it as a seasonal mobile camp for Ndutu, and emphasises how close it is to the core wildlife areas.
What to know
Its biggest drawback is not really about this camp — it is inherent to mobile camps. Power is limited, tent lighting is usually dim, and charging tends to depend on points in the communal areas.
Showers are not the hotel experience of endless hot water on demand; hot water is normally prepared for you in advance (public information and guest reviews both mention it is arranged on request).
So if strong air conditioning, bright rooms, reliable power and hotel-style bathrooms matter to you, a mobile camp will not be the most comfortable choice.
