Lake Masek Tented Lodge
In an area dominated by seasonal mobile camps, Masek takes comfort about as far as Ndutu allows: the same lakeside, core game-viewing position, but with a real bathtub, power around the clock and a pool — comfortable, without giving up the wild.
Why we chose it
Its real value is that in a place like Ndutu, where mobile camps are the norm, it manages both a very good location and a genuinely comfortable stay. The camp sits on the shore of Lake Masek in the core Ndutu game-viewing area, which makes the surrounding plains easy to work during calving season — and from your own deck, the restaurant or the lounge you look straight out over the lake and the bush.
The standard of the rooms is the other reason we chose it. They are built on permanent timber decks and are very large, with a full en-suite bathroom, a bathtub, hot shower and outdoor shower, plus power all day; the camp also has a pool and a big lake-facing terrace. Ordinary enough in a normal hotel — in Ndutu it means a completely different level of comfort from a mobile camp. What is rare is that the comfort has not cost it the wildness: there is no fence, hippo, zebra and giraffe all turn up around the tents, and at night you hear the hippo out in the lake. As a TWC property, service and food are long-standing strengths, and recent reviews are consistently warm about the staff, the meals and the welcome.
Our verdict
What makes Masek unusual is that it resolves a real tension in Ndutu: you want to sleep where the game is, but you would rather not pay for that in comfort. The lakeside position, large rooms, reliable hot water and power, the pool, and settled service and cooking — when we want to lift the standard of the Ndutu night by a clear step, it is the natural choice.
If it is full
Lake Ndutu Luxury Tented Lodge (there is very little at the Luxury tier in Ndutu to swap to; this drops to the Signature tier, but it is also a permanent camp with dependable comfort and a broadly similar feel, so it is a safe substitute when Masek is full).
