Lake Eyasi is an area with very few options, so what matters here is not how luxurious the stay is but whether location, price and basic comfort are in balance — this one gets that right, with a lake view thrown in.
Why we chose it
Lake Eyasi has a genuinely thin choice of hotels, so our test here is not luxury but balance: location, price and enough comfort. Lake Eyasi Safari Lodge does well on all three — conveniently placed, sensibly priced, and comfortable enough for one night of a safari itinerary. It is built on a gentle slope, and most rooms have a private veranda facing the lake; sitting out there in the late afternoon is the small pleasure of this stop. There is also a pool, so you can wash off a day's dust when you get back.
Compared with staying somewhere further away just to get better hardware, we think this is the simpler choice, and it fits the pace of the Lake Eyasi stop itself.
What to know
Its weakness is equally straightforward: everything about it is ordinary. The rooms, finishes, bathrooms and general hardware are nothing special, and neither the service nor the public areas give much sense of a resort. Judged on its own against similarly priced hotels elsewhere, it does not stand out.
