Ang'ata Ngorongoro Tented Camp
What you are paying for is the location, not the fit-out. Staying inside the conservation area means you come straight back to camp after the crater — the driving time you save goes back into the safari, and at this price that is usually worth more than a prettier room.
Why we chose it
Ang'ata's great strength is a good location at a sensible price. It sits inside the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, so after a morning on the crater floor you return straight to camp instead of driving all the way back to Karatu. On safari we think that kind of positional convenience is often worth more than a better-looking room at the same price.
It is an economy-tier camp, but the service and food are good and the safari atmosphere is genuine. When the budget is tight, we would rather spend it on location than add hours of pointless driving in exchange for smarter hardware.
What to know
This is a real safari camp, and the fit-out is simple: power is limited and showers are bush/bucket showers, filled with hot water by the staff. Don't judge the comfort by ordinary hotel standards.
Canvas does little for sound insulation, so expect to hear wind and animals at night. Ngorongoro is also high, and nights — especially in the dry season — get genuinely cold, so bring warm layers.
